To encourage academic excellence and hard work, the University of Lagos has awarded N41.5million to 982 students of the institution.
67 of the students with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.5 and above were recognised for academic excellence and were awarded N50 000 each. 61 others who are outstanding sportsmen and women, including eight students with leadership qualities, 173 others in the needy students category and 64 students in the physically challenged category will also receive the sum of N25,000 respectively.
This award covered the 2012/2013 academic session.
At the endowment awards ceremony in Lagos, the Vice-Chancellor, Rahamon Bello said that the scheme was to encourage others in the school and provide the much needed financial assistance to the indigent and physically challenged students.
He said that future awards would be better and would also be held much earlier in the session in order to make the funds more readily applicable, NAN reported.
One of the beneficiaries, Busayo Adebulugbe, a physically challenged 300 level student of Geomatics, said that the award would inspire him to do more. He said that he was looking forward to more of such awards, which he described as laudable experience.
